The Whitney Classic

The Whitney Classic benefits the programs of Summit Adventure.

This is a hardcore endurance event.

The ride begins at 3 pm on Saturday. Riders begin at Badwater in Death Valley (-282'), climb two 5000 ft. passes, and grind through the night, ending at Mt. Whitney Portal (8365').

Riders encounter extreme heat, cold, possible high winds and/or sand storms, and three long climbs--17 miles, 13 miles, and 13 miles. Total elevation gain is 15,300 feet over 135 mile ride. Riding through the night is an additional challenge. the ride officially ends at 12:00 noon on Sunday.

The Whitney Classic is a fundraiser.

All riders must raise a minimum of $700 in pledges. Fundraising incentive prizes, including bicycle components and other great stuff, will be offered. (Details to be announced.)

Please note that the fundraising minimum was increased in 2007 to $700. The ride is a fundraiser for Summit Adventure's ministry. Many veteran Whitney classic riders have expressed over the years that if they are going to raise funds for the ride that they might as well raise $2,000 or more. They have also said that the effort to "up the ante" a few hundred is not too much since they are already raising the funds. If you have questions, please call us. We will be including additional, easy to follow, fund raising helps in the rider packet and online for the ride as well as phone and email support to help you.
